Yacht America and Spirit of Bermuda
The modern replica of the yacht America is in the midst of an epic voyage to raise awareness of the America’s Cup. The vessel will visit Mystic Seaport June 11-15, and be berthed next to the Charles W. Morgan.
Yacht AMERICA
The famous schooner is scheduled to arrive some time Saturday morning and visitors to the Museum are invited to tour America the first half of each day, Sunday through Wednesday, June 12, 13, 14, and 15.
Go for a sail! Two-and-a-half hour sails aboard America will also be available June 11, 12, 13, and 14, departing at 1 p.m. Join the America crew for a sail down the Mystic River and into Fishers Island Sound. Tickets are $85 for adults and $45 for children under the age of 12. Please call 860.572.5339 for reservations.
Learn about the America's Cup: America's Captain Troy Sears and Mystic Seaport Curator of Photography Mary Anne Stets will present "The History and Evolution of the America's Cup," on Monday, June 13, at 7 p.m. in the River Room at Latitude 41 Restaurant & Tavern. They will explore the history of the competition and highlight the remarkable America's Cup artifacts and photographs in the Museum's collections. Tickets are $15 for members, $20 for non-members. Joining America at Chubb's Wharf will be Spirit of Bermuda, a replica of an 18th century, three-masted British sloop-of-war. She will be open to the public to tour during the first half of each day, June 12-14. Captain Stuart Birnie and members of the Bermuda Sloop Foundation will present "Up Close with Spirit of Bermuda," in the River Room on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The talk will explain why the boat was built and how they use her for youth sail training. Tickets are $15 for members, $20 for non-members. Tickets may be purchased by calling 860.572.5339.
